Who I Am

I am Mark Scott, co-formulator of Hangovr180®. I am not a scientist by training. (I do not list a science degree because I do not have one, and overstating credentials is one of the failure modes I most wanted to avoid in building this brand.)

What I am is someone who looks at systems -- how they actually work, underneath the way they are described -- and finds the lever nobody has pulled yet. I have been doing this long enough, across enough different domains, to have some confidence in the method. The method is: go to the mechanism, test directly, cut what doesn't work, keep what does, and don't claim more than the evidence supports.

The 150 self-tests over six months were not unusual for me. They were the natural way to approach a problem I thought was worth solving.

Nance Schmidt identified DHM as the primary candidate and provided the scientific framework the formula is built on. I refined it through testing. That is an accurate description of how the formula came to exist.

How I Work

I learned the relevant biochemistry from results, not from a degree program. The iterative cycle -- read the mechanism literature, test at the relevant dose, observe directly, cut or keep -- is how I have approached every formulation problem I have worked on. It produces working knowledge that is different from academic knowledge, and in some ways more useful: I know what DHM does at 1,500mg versus lower doses because I tested it, not because I read about it.

Acts by promoting aldehyde and alcohol metabolism of foods.

The DHM literature -- starting with the foundational Shen 2012 paper from UCLA 1 and extending through the more recent bioavailability and brain-aging work -- is what convinced me that DHM at a real dose was worth building a formula around. The published mechanism literature is the foundation. My testing was the proof of concept. The formula is the result.

I have held director roles at publicly listed companies on both US and Canadian exchanges. I know what it means to build something that holds up under scrutiny. That standard applies here.

What Authorship Means on This Site

Every page in the science cluster of this site is written by me, with research assistance for citation-finding and editorial assistance for tightening prose. The claims H180 makes are claims I personally vetted against the underlying mechanism literature and the FDA's structure-function-claim guidelines under DSHEA. The testing methodology is mine. The formula choices are mine. The compliance framework -- 35 structure-function claims submitted, two objected to and permanently excluded, 33 remain without objection -- reflects the standard I hold this brand to. Patent applications use clinical terminology appropriate for USPTO filings; the consumer marketing language for Hangovr180® follows separate FDA regulations for dietary supplements under DSHEA -- which is why what you read on the label sounds different from what you read in the patent.

Helps maintain balanced moderation.

The credibility of teh formula rests on the published mechanism literature, not on my personal credentials. My role is to map that literature to a defensible formula and to keep the language honest about what the evidence actually supports. Where I am not certain, I say so. Where the evidence is strong, I say that too.

How to Reach Me

I read product feedback directly. The contact information on the H180 site routes to me personally for substantive product or formulation questions. I do not respond as fast as a customer-service team would, but substantive questions get an answer from the actual co-formulator.
